How To Make Sweet Potato Fries

Fries that are so easy you can make them on a weeknight, what a concept. They're crisp, take a mere 30 minutes, and require only one ingredient (sweet potato, obviously). I've tested a variety of methods to making sweet potato fries before. There has been soaking, oiling, starch coatings, salt, no salt.. the list goes on. However, the most efficient and satisfying method for me has been the one below. This recipe is meant for a singular or perhaps a shared serving. Simply add more sweet potatoes and follow the same method if meal prepping a whole bunch or feeding a crowd.

Ingredients

  • 1 sweet potato

Method

Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet (or however many you need) with parchment paper.

When it comes to choosing the type of sweet potato to use, I haven't found any difference among the lot in how they cook up. I used a Japanese sweet potato in these photos and personally find them to the be the sweetest by taste and smoothest in texture.

Slice sweet potato of choice lengthwise in half. Slice halves into 1/2" matchsticks.

Place on lined baking sheet making sure the fries are not touching as this ensures they will become crisp during the bake.

Bake fries for 20 minutes, flip using tongs, bake for an additional 10 - 15 minutes. Voilà, crisp sweet potato fries.
