Function of Well Practice Update

Hey there, it’s been a long time since I checked in. Almost forgot how to create a new post but here we are to give you an update.

The skinny of it:

I’m about to trade my private nutrition practice for scrubs and clinical rotations. Obviously, I planned this before the COVID-19 pandemic slapped the U.S. health care system. Unsure if my next venture is going to start as planned the first week of May but a few online classes and delayed hospital shifts are a fine alternative. Regardless of when I actually start, Function of Well Nutrition is no longer taking new people into the practice. This site isn’t going anywhere, you’ll just see the “health services” tab disappear.

The long-winded version of it:

Private practice doesn’t quite serve me in the ways I want. It’s not a tough detachment because I went into private practice nutrition well aware that it was probably a jumping point to see where I wanted my scope of practice to be. I saw what people need from medicine firsthand and a few months of that was enough to justify working toward NP credentials. My mission to serve others is going to work better where patients can see me under insurance and I have a broader scope of practice on the conventional medicine side.

On a more personal note, God has been really gracious in teaching me how to recover from the up and down seasons. When I hopped off social media last summer and stopped updating this site I was in a heavy season. Happy to report that these days my health is pretty stable. Hyperoxularia is currently well-managed and the extreme nature of Colorado athleticism has honestly done wonders for me after my 2018 accident. I told myself I’d keep up with my partner skiing this year and a whole bunch of inbound days got me there. Hot tip: if you want to force yourself to feel fearless spend 4 days at Jackson Hole. Part of what keeps me in the mountains without skis on my feet is that we have two dogs now that need to run miles at a time. I’m hoping that I get placed in a clinical rotation in the Sawatch mountain range to gauge if we want to live outside of Denver eventually.

Final thoughts:

I hope if you’re reading this that you’re staying safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some things that have been helping me stay sane include: doing an Alchemy 365 workout every morning at the time I would normally go to their gym (they’re broadcasting their 50 minute HIIT/yoga workouts daily on IG and YouTube), cooking something new every night, and making lists to check off my work for even mundane stuff. Get some sunscreen-free sunshine if you can, vitamin D synthesis is good for ya.

Logistical note is that if you’re currently in my practice and we haven’t already connected I can still be reached by email at info@functionofwell.com. That communication channel won’t go anywhere! Cheers and be well.
